Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision

Though definitions of clinical supervision vary, the principal aims described in the literature are fairly consistent and can be summarised as follows:

• to enhance supervisees' skills, competence and confidence

• to provide a reflective space and emotional support

• to provide assistance with professional development

• to ensure that services to clients is safe, ethical and competent

• to ensure compliance with professional and organisational treatment standards & practices.

The Rainbow Practice can provide Clinical Supervision for other student and qualified Play & Creative Arts therapists and those Therapists/Counsellors using a Creative Arts based approach.

Clinical supervision brings a safe yet challenging relationship in which to stretch your theoretical and clinical thinking. Supervision can be orientated around any of a variety of theoretical models. The approach of the supervision will be established and agreed with you at the beginning of the supervisory period. This will depend upon your needs, preferences and personal style.

Clinical Supervision is a dedicated time to discuss/explore creatively, the relationship between therapist and their clients. The sessions will focus on experiences, thoughts, and feelings directly connected with the work you are doing.

Supervision sessions are characterised by active listening and thoughtful questioning between supervisor and supervisee.

The role of the facilitator (Sharon Tilling) is to help you to answer your own questions, and to provide support and knowledge necessary to guide decision-making and develop strategies. This can be achieved through either verbal discussions/reflections and/or creative methods and we may use any of the following experiential activities/exercises to enable connection and relatedness to any dilemmas or issues explored:

➢ Art

➢ Sand tray/SandStory

➢ Nesting dolls

➢ Story Cubes/cards

As with all of our services we carefully evaluate our supervision to ensure that we are meeting your needs and to adapt the process if necessary.
